Guidance for Submitting an In-Year Retrieval (IYR)
If you’ve been given the opportunity to complete an In-Year Retrieval (IYR), please follow the steps below carefully to make sure your work is updated and submitted correctly.
Each type of assessment has a slightly different process, so make sure you follow the guidance that applies to the component you are resubmitting.
Module Activity
1. Review your feedback
- Carefully read the feedback provided on your original submission and refer to the marking rubric.
- Identify the areas that need improvement and note any specific points highlighted by your marker.
2. Revise your work
- Make the necessary improvements to your original submission based on the feedback received from your tutor.
- To show what you’ve changed, clearly highlight or annotate the updated sections within your submission (for example, by using a different colour font or adding short comments in brackets such as “updated section”).
- Ensure your revised work still follows the original assessment guidelines on Moodle.
3. Submit your IYR attempt
- Upload your amended version of the original work to the original submission area, making sure your changes are clearly visible as described above.
- Do not remove your original submission.
4. Meet the deadline
- IYR submissions must be made within 10 working days of receiving your confirmation email.
Academic Forum
1. Review your feedback
- Carefully read the feedback provided on your original submission and refer to the marking rubric.
- Identify where you can improve your engagement, analysis, or discussion points.
2. Revise your work
- Make the necessary improvements to your original submission based on the feedback received from your tutor.
- Enhance or expand your forum posts to address the feedback provided. You may wish to clarify your points, add new evidence, or respond more fully to peers.
- Ensure your revised work still follows the original assessment guidelines on Moodle.
3. Submit your IYR attempt
- Post your additional forum contributions in the same Academic Forum area on Moodle.
- Do not remove your original submission.
4. Meet the deadline
- IYR submissions must be made within 10 working days of receiving your confirmation email.
Reflective Journal
1. Review your feedback
- Read your tutor’s feedback carefully and identify which journal entries or reflections could be developed further.
2. Revise your work
- Add new reflections or expand on existing ones, addressing the areas for improvement mentioned in the feedback.
- Make sure your updates are clearly indicated (by highlighting or dating your new entry).
3. Submit your IYR attempt
- Post your additional or revised reflections in the same Reflective Journal area on Moodle.
- Do not remove your original submission.
4. Meet the deadline
- IYR submissions must be made within 10 working days of receiving your confirmation email.
Exam
1. Review the module
- Read your tutor’s feedback carefully and review the weekly end of module summaries provided.
2. Revise your work
- Review the relevant module materials, activities, and resources to strengthen your understanding of the topics covered in the exam.
3. Resubmit the exam
- Your exam will be reopened in Moodle for a new attempt.
- You will follow the same exam instructions and time limits as the original attempt.
4. Meet the deadline
- Your exam attempt must be completed within 10 working days of receiving your confirmation email.
