Falling Behind? What Are My Options?

Balancing postgraduate study with work and family life can be challenging, especially when starting a new course. If you're feeling overwhelmed, don't panic—we're here to support you. Our goal is to help you succeed and make the most of this opportunity to advance your career.

Struggling in Your First Module?

If you're in Module 1 and are finding it difficult to navigate your course, engage in online discussions, or build confidence in participation, we offer additional support beyond the Study Skills module.

You can book a one-on-one call with our team to help you:

  • Navigate Moodle effectively.

  • Familiarise yourself with your tutors and peers.

  • Gain confidence in participating in discussions.

We want to ensure you feel comfortable and supported as you progress in your studies.

Missed Work or Deadlines? What Are Your Options?

If you're struggling to keep up, our Engagement Officer is available to discuss possible solutions tailored to your situation.

Common Concerns & Solutions:

Q: I am on call for the next 3 days and might not have enough time to engage with the course.
A: Speak to your tutor. They are a working medic, just like you, and will be able to give you advice, reduce the influence of promptness on your marks or simply ask you to respond when you are no longer on call. There are multiple options to support you and your busy professional life.

Q: An unforeseen work schedule prevented me from accessing my course for a few weeks, and now there’s too much to catch up on.
A: You may be eligible for an extension, allowing you to revisit missed content after the module ends rather than working twice as hard to catch up. We can also help guide you on where to focus your efforts for the best results.

Q: A family member has been unwell, and I had to travel to care for them without internet access.
A: In this case, you might qualify for a non-submission for the missed module and have the option to rejoin the course at the beginning of the next module. This would give you extra time to prioritise family responsibilities before resuming your studies.

Q: The course feels too intensive—I don’t think I have enough time.
A: Postgraduate study can feel overwhelming alongside work and childcare. We can help you identify the most critical components for your grades so you can prioritise effectively and manage your workload more efficiently.
